Food and Drink

What Not to Eat or Drink Before Swimming

Most people don’t realize it, but you have to be very careful about what you eat before you decide to take that dip into a swimming pool. While swimming on an empty stomach is ideal, especially if you wish to lose that annoying extra weight, you can still enjoy a light meal before you change into a swimsuit. Just make sure that your meal does not consist of the following:

Milk

Drinking a glass of milk just before you go for a swim can not only tire you out quickly, but can also result in stomach distress.

Fatty Foods

If you are planning on going for a swim after enjoying pizza at your friend’s pool party, think again! Because fried and fatty foods like pizza, burgers, steaks and fries take a lot of time to digest. Blood flow to the stomach is already reduced during any kind of exercise. Your stomach will have to work harder to digest that extra fat.

Alcohol

It’s always best to avoid alcohol consumption while swimming and participating in water activities. Save it for afterwards.

Alcohol can not only suppress fat oxidation, but it can also increase the risk of spasm if water accidentally enters your windpipe. And we all know that the chances of drowning can increase a lot when we are not in our senses!
